The educational workshops can be structured and designed around any relevant projects, making links with the curriculum and current topics. Using exciting materials the pupils will explore, experiment and create their own headdresses, which can be worn.
A workshop format generally consists of a fun discussion of the history of hats and why we wear them, giving the pupils an opportunity to try them on. I give a short demonstration, which explores different techniques of structure and form and methods of manipulating joining and fixing to create their headdress.
Pupils are encouraged to explore their imagination with fun and innovative materials they will experiment and develop confidence in their Art & Design skills. All these new skills learnt are transferable and can be expanded upon in class with the teacher at a later date and an excellent springboard for future lesson development.
The day is usually concluded with a fashion show to show off their creations to the rest of the school.
